New York, New York

We are really looking forward to spending some time in a natural environment along the Erie Canal for nearly 2 weeks.  Before that, we are getting a brief stint in the big city. It’s a bit overwhelming for a country mouse like myself; lots of lights, sounds and people. Definitely a lively place with so much going on. Tomorrow we will explore. But for today we are just happy we made it to NYC in one piece with the chair intact!

It was a long day with a 5am departure from Port Angeles. The flight went well, we have always found SeaTac to be an easy place to fly out of. Friendly staff, respectful and thoughtful baggage handlers and they got everything to our destination successfully. I made a plan to distract myself for the 5 hour flight. I rigged up a harmonica neck holder with the micro switches for my phone and ipad. It worked great and it seemed we arrived at JFK in no time.

There was a bit of a kerfuffle with the wheelchair van transport from JFK. It was a rear entry van that barely fit me and my chair. And then we had all our luggage and my Mom and Russ. It was a can of sardines! Driving the 13 miles into Manhattan took over an hour. The traffic was unbelievable.  Because of gridlock we were dropped off around the corner of the hotel with me having to exit into the street.  Welcome to the city!

My dad and Jimmy were there to help us haul the luggage to the hotel. Dr. B will be here in the morning. Should be good to have the gang back together again.

A New York slice with my pal Jimmy

Our hotel room is far from fancy but will work for our needs for a couple nights. I’m looking forward to some sleep after a long day of travel across the country, and I’m super excited for the weeks ahead.
